Dooomed To Self-Extinction is the first of a pentalogy of books that offer my unsolicited view of the modern day world that we live in. As my other four books will deal with other sensitive issues of mankind’s social conditions, I suspect that I will quite intentionally ruffle more than a few feathers. A friend of mine has always been fond of repeating what I am sure is an old saying that “common sense isn’t very common” and I suspect that this will become a very obvious, and hopefully, a sub-theme to my thoughts. Love my opinions, dispute my opinions, like me, despise me, I don’t really care. My goal is to challenge you to STOP AND THINK about the ideas that I am putting forth. The greatest gift that we’ve been given (separating us from all other living things) is our ability to THINK, beyond life’s basics of seeking food, shelter and the need to reproduce. So, enjoy, and more importantly, ponder!
The “DOOOMED” series of books is a pentalogy (five books) that deal with modern day social issues confronting mankind. Please join me in exploring these topics and sharing your opinions as you “ponder” what I’m proposing. Comments at www.dooomedbyriley.com
You can call it a pen name, an alias, a pseudonym, or the more formal nom de plume, but the truth is (as you may have already determined) that “Riley” is not my real name. Aside from my desire to use a name that inspires some level of commonality, warmth and maybe even a tad bit of old-fashioned wisdom, I actually have a couple of reasons for using an alternate name.
The polarization of society that has somehow exponentially accelerated in just the last few years, along with the radicalization of extremists wishing to express their disagreements with threats, intimidation and outward acts of physical violence, has moved me to take precautions concerning the safety of family and friends in the circle of my relationships.
As foreboding as this last paragraph sounds, I have an even more important reason for using a pen name. That is, that I’m not looking for a spotlight to bask in, but a platform to express my opinions in order to cause people to “ponder” the ideas that I’ve outlined in this book, and in ones that I intend to write in books going forward.
By focusing attention on the author of a book, to some degree (large or small), that focus detracts from the messages that a book like this is trying to convey. The ideas and opinions outlined inside of these covers are better served by the reader considering what has been said, and sharing their thoughts with others, or by a group or groups of people in meaningful conversation. If these things happen, I’ve accomplished my goal…..
